Recipe of the week...
TALL AND FRUITY TOTEM POLES
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 1 snack
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of fresh fruit such as pineapple, strawberries, grapes, watermelon, honeydew or cantaloupe
- 3-4 large marshmallows
Utensils:
- 1 12-inch wooden or metal skewer
- A few toothpicks
- Food coloring
- A cutting board
- A sharp knife
Steps:
- The first thing you want to do is check with a grown-up before you start this.
- Once you get their okay, ask them to wash and cut the fruit into small chunks using a cutting board and a sharp knife.
- For the marshmallow faces, use the food coloring and toothpicks to draw faces on the marshmallows (let them dry before adding them to the skewer).
- Push the skewer through pieces of fruit and the marshmallows, one by one, in any order that you like, until you have a full skewer.
- Enjoy your snack!
Note:
FROSTED FRUIT KABOBS are a similar treat. To make, leave out the marshmallows and roll a skewer full of fruit in a bed of shredded coconut.
