Healthy Habit of the Day...
VITAMIN A is needed for healthy growth and it helps us see in dim light. It is found in yellow, orange and dark green vegetables.
Recipe of the week...
GET UP! GET OUT! GARDEN
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Bake: 8 minutes
Makes: 6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 4-ounce package refrigerated crescent rolls
- 1/2 cup of cream cheese, plain or garden vegetable flavored
- 3 cups assorted vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, colored peppers and zucchini
Utensils:
- A baking sheet
- Hot pads
- Measuring spoons
- A table knife or rubber spatula
- Measuring cups
- A sharp knife
Steps:
- The first thing you want to do is check with a grown-up before you start
- Once you get their "ok," ask them to help you pre-heat the oven on 375 degrees
- Open the package of crescent rolls and unroll the sheet of uncooked dough onto the ungreased baking sheet
- Pinch the perforations together with your fingers and press the dough into an 8-inch square
- Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake until the crust is lightly golden (for 8-10 minutes)
- While the crust is cooking, ask your grown-up helper to help wash and cut the vegetables into small veggie morsels
- Once the crust is done, remove it from the oven using the hot pads, and allow it to cool completely before spreading the cream cheese on it
- Use the table knife or spatula to spread cream cheese over the cooled crust
- Arrange the veggies in rows, on top of the covered crust, to look like a garden
- And then, viola! It's done! Enjoy!
