grayPlaces to Go - Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council

Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council, Ann Arbor
The Girl Scouts of the Huron Valley Council received a grant to establish Second Nature: Making the Out-of-doors a Healthy Habit for Girls and Families. Second Nature expands the Council's traditional scout-troop programs to include parent- and family-oriented recreation and educational activities in the out-of-doors. Second Nature will also include educational workshops and programs for parents and other adults to explore the value of physically active, outdoor experiences for girls, as well as the cultural biases and barriers that may constrain girls from adopting outdoor-oriented lifestyles. Second Nature will be open to girls living in Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw counties, and parts of northern Oakland and western Wayne counties, and will specifically target girls and families living in several low-income housing communities in Ann Arbor and the residents of First Step, a domestic violence shelter in Wayne County.
